| Awarding
of Directors
The exhibition which was organised on Thurday, 7th October
in Atlantis Hotel was a great night both in terms of participation
and content, honouring and awarding three important citizens
of Iraklio that have shined in Cinema, Theatre and Music.
These are music composer Christos Leontis, director and producer
Lefteris Charonitis and director Giannis Smaragdis.
Main colloquist of the exhibit was the president of RCI Mr.
Epameinontas Charonitis, who in his compellation mentioned
that all the foresaid have made us proud not only in Greece,
as we know that many of their works have great success abroad
too.
After him, Ex-Assistand Director Nikos Flemetakis took the
word and analysed masterly that the month of October is the
month which Rotary celebrates as month of professional action,
emphasizing on the participation of each rotarian in the everyday
application of the ideals of professional activity and conscience,
augmenting competition with the manifold offer of professionals
to the society. Following this spirit, RCI awarded three exceptional
fellow citizens.
The honorees, speaking in turn, accented that it is a great
satisfaction and joy for their work to be recognized, and
especially when this honour comes from a club like Rotary
Club of Iraklio, the city where they were born and raised.
As Mr. Leontis said characteristically : "I do not reckon
that I ever left Iraklio. The bonding with this place is so
deep that seeing positive things happening in it fills me
with joy."
Mr. Charonitis that lives in Iraklio for few months each year
says : "When a part of your fellow citizens honours you,
you feel that you are not cut off your birthplace, that you
are still a member of it. This awarding strengthens these
bonds making you feel that you offer in your way".
Mr. Smaragdis, describing the grounds of Iraklio holy, said
that he feels disappointed that the shootings of the film
about El Greco are delayed. He also pointed out that "It
is my obligation to my birthplace, to Dominicos Theotokopoulos
and to all the people that love me. So I would like to apologize
that I have still not fulfilled this duty of mine..."
The honourary plaquette was given to Mr. Leontis by the Vice
President of RCI Mr. Kogakis (ph. 4), to Mr. Charonitis by
ex-President Mr. Tsoumpas (ph. 6) and to Mr. Smaragdis by
President of RCI Mr. Epameinondas Charonitis (ph. 6).
This praiseworthy initiative of RCI was approved by the president
of city council of Iraklio Mr. Karanastasis, by the prefect
of Iraklio prefecture Mr. Dimitris Sarris and by the and by
deputy Mr. Manolis Stratakis.
