Association of Scholarships and Awards of Rotary Club of Iraklio  Since the foundation of the Rotary Club of Iraklio in 1964, one of the many committees that its internal regulations anticipate, the Association of Scholarships and Awards, was created. The mission of this committee was at first the awardement of some of our fellow citizens, for their guise and their real help to those who suffer. During these years, helped by a small economical fee by the members of the Club, this association separated itself economically and expanded its activities by offering a small monthly allowance to first year students of higher and highest levels of education, coming from the greater area of the prefecture of Iraklio, who were economically weak, but had an excellent guise and studies. This association functioned perfectly, based on the sensibility and charitable feelings of members of RCI and other fellow citizens. In 1998, when president of RCI was rotarian Nikos Flemetakis, ever memorable ex-director of 2470 rotarian district and member of RCI Manolis Paterakis recommended in his speech at the General Assembly : "The Committee of Awards should transform into an Association of Scholarships and Awards, so as by having its own funds, to be ready to materialise its programs." Thus, on 20-10-1998, two months exactly before his death, he saw his dream come true, due to the final decision of the General Assembly of RCI in which the foundation of the Association of Scholarships and Awards of Rotary Club of Iraklio was determined. According to the decision no. 704/ 1998 of one-member court of first instance of Iraklio, record number 1553, A.S.A.R.C.I was acknowledged, with a seal emblem common with that of Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Its memorandum of association consists, after the last modification (29/1/2004), of 22 articles. ADMINISTRATION It is managed by a seven member A.C. that is elected every two years by its orderly members. Members if A.S.A.R.C.I. are considered all the members of RCI, which was founded in 1964. Members are divided to orderly and honourary. PRESIDENTS SINCE ESTABLISHMENT 1998-2001 First President was rotarian Stelios Giannikakis who was also the president of former Committee of Awards. 2001-2003 Second President was the ex-president of RCI Stathis Vasileiadis. 2003-2005 Third President is Nikos Flemetakis. TAX ELEMENTS N.T.R.: 999485459 First D.O.Y. of Iraklio AIM The aim of this association is the award of scholarships to economically weak, but with an excellent guise, industrious students that firstly enter schools of higher and highest educational level, in Greece and Cyprus. They and their parents must permanently live in the limits of the prefecture of Iraklio and their families must come from the prefecture of Iraklio. ACTIVITIES SO FAR Awardements of twelve fellow citizens for their guise, their comportment and in general their behaviour against our fellows. (Discovery and delivery of money, rescue of people that were in danger, behaviour worthy of praise etc). Allowance, for the last five years, of monthly funds to six economically weak students until completion of their studies. This allowance is continued with the deposit of 200 euros each month to two students. FUNDS The funds of A.S.A.R.C.I. are based on contributions coming from members, as well as on miscellaneous donations and sponsorships of some sensitive fellow citizens.
